Bakkafrost recently hosted a workshop for the sustainability network association Varandi Vinna at its headquarters in Glyvrar, Faroe Islands. The event focused on how companies can measure and report greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions using international standards, such as the GHG Protocol. Attendees also received an overview of key social metrics required by the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), including workforce composition, health and safety, and diversity indicators.

The workshop brought together member companies from across the Faroe Islands. Bakkafrost shared insights developed over years of working with sustainability reporting and managing CO2 emissions.

Group Sustainability Director Tordis Poulsen and ESG Accounting Manager Bjarki Johannessen presented Bakkafrost’s methodology for calculating Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. Their presentation covered emission factors, traceability, and alignment with Science Based Targets. They also offered practical guidance on building a GHG inventory in Excel for CSRD/ESRS reporting and climate target management.

Participants took part in discussions on both the main topics of the workshop and broader sustainability issues. The engagement demonstrated the benefits of sharing experiences within the network. According to Bakkafrost, this exchange supports the ongoing green transition in the Faroe Islands—a process to which Bakkafrost is committed through active participation and knowledge sharing.

Varandi Vinna is a sustainability network organized by The House of Industry in the Faroe Islands. It brings together companies that are dedicated to sustainable development and works as a collaborative platform for exchanging knowledge across industries.
