BioMar has achieved Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Feed Certification for its facility in Nersac, France. This makes it the first aquaculture feed production site in France to receive ASC certification. The Nersac factory produces feed for all stages of fish farming, including hatchery diets, and will now be able to supply ASC-conforming feeds across the West Mediterranean and Africa regions.

The ASC Feed Standard includes strict requirements related to environmental responsibility, social and labor rights, health and safety, and sustainable sourcing of raw materials. With this certification, BioMar aims to support ASC-certified producers from the beginning of the farming cycle.

Camille Civel, ASC Regional Manager Southern Europe, France & Italy, stated: “We are delighted to celebrate Biomar France’s ASC Feed certification. As the first ASC certified feed production facility in France, Biomar demonstrates its strong commitments to sustainability and innovation, and sets a powerful example for others in the region to follow. This milestone marks a major step forward for responsible aquaculture in France.”

Luis Garcia Romero, Managing Director at BioMar, commented: “This certification strengthens our ability to support ASC-certified farmers at every production stage. By offering ASC-conforming feed, we help our customers meet evolving market expectations and build value across the full value chain in the western mediterranean region as Nersac factory in France together with Dueñas factory in Spain are the responsible sites for supplying feed to the whole Western Mediterranean Europe and Africa.”

BioMar has previously obtained similar certifications at facilities located in Chile, Ecuador, Spain, Costa Rica, Norway, Denmark and the UK. These achievements enable BioMar to offer ASC-compliant feeds for various species and farming systems worldwide.

Javier Soria of DNV Iberia said: “At DNV, we celebrate the continued progress of BIOMAR Group’s sustainability strategy, with the recent integration of its French factory into this initiative. This site joins the other group facilities in the challenge of ASC certification, a key tool to ensure responsible and sustainable sourcing of animal feed, contributing to the overall sustainability of the entire food supply chain.”

The company states that this latest achievement reflects its commitment to supporting sustainable practices within global aquaculture.
