The event “Together for Positive Impact” took place at IBM Studios in Milan, organized by Bolton, WWF, and Oxfam. It highlighted the achievements of partnerships aimed at promoting sustainable fishing practices, protecting ocean ecosystems, and safeguarding human rights in the seafood supply chain. The event also announced the renewal of these partnerships through 2028 with more ambitious goals.

Luca Alemanno, CEO of Bolton Food; Alessandra Prampolini, Director General of WWF Italy; and Roberto Barbieri, Executive Director of Oxfam Italy delivered speeches emphasizing a holistic vision of sustainability that integrates economic, environmental, and social aspects. They discussed how alliances can foster responsible business models capable of driving systemic change across the sector.

“Today, a company that truly wants to embrace sustainability in all its dimensions must take full responsibility for its impact: not only by improving its own performance but by actively contributing to broader, systemic change,” says Luca Alemanno. “At Bolton, sustainability is an integral part of the way we do business—guided by a long-term vision and focused on creating lasting value for all stakeholders.”

Alessandra Prampolini stated: “The major environmental challenges our planet faces today require immediate, bold—and most importantly—collective responses.” She highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships with the private sector based on concrete commitments.

Roberto Barbieri added: “In a world marked by rising inequality, companies must take an active role in promoting human rights, equity, and inclusion across their supply chains.”

Bolton’s partnership with WWF focuses on sustainable fisheries and ocean protection. The partnership aims to make Bolton’s tuna supply chain more sustainable. Since 2017, significant progress has been made with 99.7% of Bolton’s tuna now responsibly sourced.

The renewed partnership will expand its scope over the next four years. By 2028, Bolton aims to source at least 95% of its tuna according to newly defined sustainable fisheries criteria.

Regarding human rights in the supply chain, Bolton partnered with Oxfam starting in 2020 to protect people in the seafood supply chain. Human Rights Impact Assessments were conducted in Ecuador, Morocco, and Colombia using Oxfam’s methodology.

The renewed partnership aims to extend HRIA work to other key sourcing geographies like Indonesia. Oxfam will continue supporting action plans addressing gender equality and living wages while identifying opportunities for public advocacy.

Transformative partnerships like those between Bolton and organizations such as WWF and Oxfam offer replicable models for companies viewing sustainability as a lever for value rather than a constraint.
