Kelly Cove Salmon Ltd. has announced its participation in a public hearing before the Nova Scotia Aquaculture Review Board (ARB) regarding a proposed boundary amendment for its Coffin Island salmon farm, designated AQ#1205, in Liverpool Bay.
The company is seeking approval to expand the existing farm by adding six cages and 198,000 Atlantic salmon, increasing the total from 462,000 fish across 14 cages to 660,000 fish. Kelly Cove stated that thorough technical and biological assessments have been conducted and that the site meets environmental regulations.
Kelly Cove Salmon Ltd. has operated Atlantic salmon farms in Nova Scotia for over 25 years. The company reports an investment of more than $250 million in local operations, including farms, processing plants, distribution facilities, and transportation infrastructure.
Currently, Kelly Cove and its affiliates employ 323 full-time staff in Nova Scotia. This workforce generates an annual payroll exceeding $17.7 million and contributes $10.4 million in taxes. Local consumer spending attributed to these employees is estimated at $19.4 million annually. In 2025 alone, Kelly Cove spent over $60 million on goods and services from more than 400 businesses across Nova Scotia.
A spokesperson for Kelly Cove Salmon Ltd. said: “We are optimistic that the Board will approve this boundary amendment, and we look forward to continuing to be part of the working waterfront in Liverpool Bay.”
