SalMar ASA announced on Mar. 13 that it has received notification from the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries approving the conversion of development licenses, totaling 6,112 tonnes of maximum allowable biomass, into ordinary aquaculture licenses. The decision concerns the company’s Arctic Offshore Farming project.
This move allows SalMar to include these licenses in its regular production capacity. The company said this is a positive development, as it means authorities believe the criteria for allocating these licenses have been met.
According to SalMar, the conversion is seen as recognition of its significant investments and expertise developed within offshore aquaculture. The company stated that this acknowledgment reflects its ongoing commitment to advancing technology and operations in the sector.
The Arctic Offshore Farming project has been a key part of SalMar’s strategy to expand its presence in offshore aquaculture. With these new ordinary licenses, SalMar will be able to further integrate this initiative into its overall production framework.
Looking ahead, SalMar expects that the inclusion of these licenses will support continued growth and innovation within its operations.
