Trident Seafoods CEO Joe Bundrant has released a statement in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, highlighting the company’s commitment to unity, service, and ethical conduct. In his message, Bundrant reflects on Dr. King’s influence and how his teachings continue to shape Trident Seafoods’ values.
Bundrant notes that Dr. King’s message remains relevant for both individuals and organizations. “The time is always right to do what is right,” he quotes Dr. King from a 1964 speech at Oberlin College.
He describes Trident Seafoods as a family-owned company with roots in Alaska’s coastal communities, emphasizing the importance of trust, integrity, and care for people, oceans, and local communities. According to Bundrant, these principles align closely with Dr. King’s call for justice and compassion.
MLK Day is observed nationwide as a day of service. Bundrant encourages employees, partners, and community members to engage in volunteer activities not only on MLK Day but throughout the year. He mentions volunteering at food banks and urban farms, participating in coastal cleanups, mentoring youth, supporting elders, or simply offering kindness as examples of meaningful actions.
“These small acts of service create ripple effects that strengthen the places we call home, from Alaska’s fishing villages to the Pacific Northwest and communities across the United States,” Bundrant says. “When we show up for one another, we help build a culture of unity and resilience.”
To maximize its impact on communities, Trident Seafoods focuses its efforts on four strategic areas: promoting community well-being through partnerships and volunteerism; protecting ocean health and sustainable fisheries; supporting safe workplaces grounded in dignity and inclusion; and serving customers with integrity.
Bundrant adds that Dr. King’s vision provides guidance during uncertain times: “His commitment to nonviolence, courage and moral clarity reminds us that progress is possible when we choose compassion over indifference and action over silence.”
“As we honor Dr. King’s legacy,” Bundrant concludes, “we reaffirm our commitment to unity, service and moral leadership. We invite everyone…to join us in celebrating the spirit of MLK Day by doing something meaningful for someone else.”
